Karen Miller is a seasoned executive with many years of experience in the insurance industry across South Africa and the UK. Her career has spanned senior leadership roles in sales, underwriting, operations, and customer strategy – most notably as CEO of ABSA General Insurance in South Africa, and later as Chief Operating Officer (Insurance) at Saga Group UK.
Known for her forward-thinking approach, Karen has led large-scale business transformations including digitisation and automation and championed design-led approaches which improve processes, systems, organisational efficiency & effectiveness, as well as underwriting discipline. She has a deep interest in organisational culture and the creation of high-performance teams, to enable effective strategy execution.
In 2024, Karen took on a new challenge – stepping outside the traditional insurance sector to become Chief Executive of the Medical Protection Society (MPS), the world’s largest not-for-profit, member-owned medical defence organisation. Now at the helm, she is leading a five-year strategic transformation plan designed to secure a sustainable future for MPS and its members, while preserving the values and purpose that have defined it for over 130 years.
